As members and other carriers are aware, the Trans Canada Highway through Headingley will be closed entirely for repairs to the CP rail line from June 24-28.
Commercial vehicles will be allowed to travel on the detour with the same legal RTAC loading allowed on PTH 1.
There is ONE detour route for ALL COMMERCIAL TRAFFIC, INCLUDING LCVs:
- Eastbound Detour Route: south on PTH 13, east on PTH 2 to PTH 3 to the Perimeter Highway
- Westbound Detour Route: west on PTH 3 to PTH 2, north on PTH 248, west on the Trans Canada Highway
- Detour Route Maps
Due to safety concerns, long combination vehicles (LCVs) are not permitted on the detour routes after sunset and/or before sunrise (night travel). CLICK HERE for sunrise and unset as defined by Environment Canada.
LCVs traveling on the detour are recommended to travel with LONG LOAD signs, mounted on the rear of the last trailer.
LCVs that cannot be accommodated during daylight hours will be required to either split their units, park somewhere, or pause dispatching until PTH 1 or the detour routes re-open.
- LCV’s operators who split their units are allowed to reposition the extra converter dolly behind a truck tractor semi-trailer provided they hold a valid Manitoba LCV permit and the converter dolly has proper lighting.
- Eastbound LCVs: Pilot/Flying J east of Portage La Prairie has made space available for eastbound operators to stage LCVs overnight. The PTH 1 south access lane can be used for short times for LCVs to break-up in order to travel on the detour after sunset.
- Westbound LCVs: There is no designated staging/break-up area for westbound LCV operators at this time.
There will be variable message boards communicating the closure on the Trans Canada Highway in Headingley and at the detour routes. Motor Carrier Enforcement will be on site to ensure road safety and proper detour usage at key intersections.
