Due Diligence in Ensuring Compliance – Event

PLEASE NOTE: due to unforeseen circumstances, this event will now take place from 9:00-noon, February 21, 2024

MTA carrier members are invited to attend a morning seminar with William Gardner of Pitblado Law on contracting owner-operators. The purpose of this seminar is to help carriers achieve compliance with Part III of the Canada Labour Code and reduce the risk of unintentional misclassification, whether through contract language or through a company’s administrative actions. The risk of misclassification is important for companies to consider, especially if they engage drivers as owner-operators. Put simply, as government starts to crack down on Driver Inc., compliant companies do not want to find themselves with unintended issues. Following Mr. Gardner’s presentation, there will be an opportunity for questions and answers.

About the Speaker: William (Bill) Gardner, KC, is the head of Labour, Employment, and Healthcare practice at Pitblado Law. Mr. Gardner is also the Chair of the Manitoba Employers’ Council, and Co-Chair of the Management Caucus of Manitoba’s Labour Management Review Committee.
