Members of the Manitoba Trucking Association continued to make National Trucking Week an industry-wide celebration this year.
Kicking off the celebrations pre-National Trucking Week was the MTA Scholarship Luncheon. Annually, the MTA, through the support of the Associated Trades Division, Vehicle Maintenance Council and individual sponsors, provides over $16,000 in scholarships. These awards are available to Manitobans in both academic and apprenticeship programs.
This event was closely followed by the annual VMC Golf Tournament, with 116 golfers in attendance at the beautiful Bridges Golf Course in Starbuck. This tournament is held annually to raise funds for apprenticeship awards as part of the MTA Scholarship Program. Winners from the day included
- Closest to Line Contest (Sponsored by Steve’s Livestock Transport & Bison View Trailers): Dwain Lecog, Rachelle Baker
- Closest to Pin Contest (sponsored by Cenovus): Paul Sigurdson, Rachelle Baker
- Bridges Longest Drive: Kevin Minty, Ava Kelman
- Most Honest Team (sponsored by GL Transport Consulting): Beaver Truck Centre
- First Place Team (sponsored by Rempel Insurance Brokers): Arthur J Gallagher
- Putting Contest Winner (sponsored by Bridgestone): Thomas Li
During National Trucking Week, MTA and RPM staff as well as volunteers handed out almost 1,000 lunches to professional drivers at the Emerson and Rosser weigh scales. This annual tradition has become a highlight for the MTA to organize.
On Friday of National Trucking Week, the Truck Pull for United Way was hosted in front of the MTA offices on Bunting Street in Winnipeg. This is one of the top events on the MTA calendar, and continues to be a highly competitive-but-friendly event! Congratulations to The Premier Group on their four-peat win of this event, taking home the championship belt once more! This year’s event raised over $8,000 for United Way Winnipeg.
The National Trucking Week calendar wrapped up with the LETR Truck Ride for Special Olympics Manitoba with 50+ trucks registered. Congratulations to Brenda from Birkett Freight Solutions who earned Lead Truck honours by raising an incredible $5,895!
The MTA would like to thank all of our event sponsors and attendees who celebrate our industry and community during National Trucking Week. As a result of their support, the MTA is able to donate tens of thousands of dollars annually to the community. The trucking industry is part of the social fabric of the communities in which we work and live, and we are proud to celebrate that.
