The Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) decided to shake things up this year when planning the annual general meeting and annual spring fundraising dinner, creating a one day event, along with a technology symposium during the day.

The objective of the one day conference which was titled ‘œTransportation 2020’¦Driving the Future”  and held on Friday April 10 at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg was to expose industry to technologies/tools they might not access as individual companies.

The event kicked off with the MTA’s annual general meeting, including a presentation from Jamie Hall, COO of SafeWork Manitoba, outlining a new provincial safety certification program for the trucking industry.

Following the AGM was an Essential Skills & Safety update from Kelly Henderson, Executive Director at Trucking Human Resources Sector Council Atlantic focussing on the link between literacy and safety.  The symposium officially began with keynote speaker Yves Provencher, Group Director of PIT (Performance, Innovation, Transport) on developing, testing and implementing innovative technology to improve heavy-duty transportation efficiency.

Attendees were then able to attend a series of breakout sessions on a variety of items such as social media techniques, in-cab and in office technologies that will allow quicker and easier access to documentation.  The event also included a mini-trade show for participants to network and for members of the MTA’s Associated Trades Division to showcase their products and services throughout the day.

Transportation 2020 wrapped up around 3 pm giving attendees enough time to go home and change for the Annual Spring gala dinner and dance, which continued on with the innovation and futuristic theme.

The MTA thanks this year’s sponsors for their support of our industry and this event.
