Manitoba Trucking Association honors Excellence in the Industry

Several members of Manitoba’s trucking industry were recognized by the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) at its annual Fall Awards Gala held on Thursday November 14 at the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre in Winnipeg.  Awards handed out at Thursday’s event included:

MTA 2013 Pioneer Club Inductees were presented to Gary Arnold (unable to attend) and Gerald Gardy both from Arnold Bros. Transport. The MTA Pioneers Club recognizes members of the Trucking Industry who have been continually employed in the trucking business for at least twenty-five years, currently in a management role and have made positive contributions to industry during that time.

 MTA-Volvo Trucks Canada Manitoba Driver of the Year was presented to Mark Tricco of Bison Transport for his extensive safety record, 33 years of accident free driving and his commitment to a safer industry.  Mark is considered by his employer to be the ultimate professional.

2013 MTA Associate of the Year  was presented to Bert Wiebe, of Marsh Canada.  Bert has been an invaluable resource to the MTA for more than 20 years. Originally starting his career as a truck mechanic, he branched off into 27 years focused on safety and compliance in the Transportation Sector.

 MTA-RBC Royal Bank Service to Industry Award was presented to Tom Payne Jr. of Payne Transportation. Tom began his career in the industry as a teenager and moved from odd jobs, to dispatcher to commercial driver and in 2008 Tom was appointed President and General Manager of Payne Transportation. Tom has been active in the industry for more than 30 years, has served with the MTA, the Canadian Trucking Alliance, CentrePort Canada and the Winnipeg Airports Authority.

MTA-SHAW Tracking Distinguished Member Award  presented to Penner International for its generations of dedication to the efforts of the MTA and the industry.  Penner is a three generational family company that began with one truck in 1923 and now serves the country with locations in ON, MB, AB and BC. The Penner family has also been active with Provincial and National Trucking associations, with several of their team serving in executive positions with the MTA.
