PDIC & LCV Instructor Courses

Note: this course is only available to MTA members

In order to receive the best training, please review the following course outlines and pre-requisites to determine what courses are necessary for you or your employee.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – Please note that the MTA owns the PDIC and LCV curriculum in Manitoba and all rights to it. The MTA offers PDIC and LCV instructor courses to carrier companies who are MTA members so that they may certify in-house instructors to train and test their own drivers. The individual taking the instructor course from the MTA maintains the certification for the carrier company so long as they are

  • employed for that company,
  • meeting the pre‐requisites for instructor certification,
  • and meeting the ongoing certification requirements.

This means that certification cannot be transferred within the company. This also means that should the instructor change companies, their certification is void. This also means that if ongoing certification requirements aren’t being met, such as registering drivers trained with the MTA, their certification is void.

This course is required for anyone who does not have experience as an instructor or instructor training. This is a one-day course offered by the MTA.

PDIC Instructor

This one-day course is required for anyone interested in teaching PDIC in-house to drivers and employees. Please review the checklist of pre-requisites on the PDIC Instructor application form.

LCV Instructor

This one-day course is required for anyone interested in teaching LCV in-house to drivers and employees. Please review the checklist of pre-requisites on the LCV Instructor application form.

Please read carefully:

Different participants will have different training requirements, for example, one company may be interested in training a PDIC instructor who already has a Class 1 Driver Instructor certificate. To complete the certification process, this participant would require the PDIC instructor course and the presentation assessment. Another company may be interested in training someone entirely new as an instructor of LCV driving and PDIC. In this case, that individual would require the facilitating skills course, PDIC Instructor, and LCV Instructor Courses.

Review the PDIC and LCV Instructor Requirements here.  Once you have reviewed them and meet the requirements to become a PDIC and/or LCV instructor, print off the checklist complete it, and return it to the MTA office no later than two weeks prior to the course.
