As is the case every year, members of the Manitoba Trucking Association celebrated National Trucking Week in a big way!

To kick off the celebrations, scholarship winners were announced on August 23. Annually, the MTA (through the Associated Trades Division and Vehicle Maintenance Council) award thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving young Manitobans in academic and apprenticeship programs.

Events hosted during National Trucking Week included

  • the VMC Golf Tournament, which is a fundraiser for the MTA scholarship program,
  • two Driver Appreciation Barbecues (Headingley and Emerson weight scales) where 600 burgers, drinks, and snacks were handed out to drivers,
  • the Truck Pull, which raised over $10,000 for United Way Winnipeg, and
  • the Special Olympics Manitoba Truck Ride.  This year’s truck ride had 75 professional drivers participating.  Donations are still coming in for the event, but we are on our way to reaching our fundraising goal.

The MTA would like to thank all of our event sponsors and attendees for their continued support of National Trucking Week activities.
