Manitoba’s Trucking Industry Kicks off United Way Fundraising

WINNIPEG, MB ‘“ Monday September 9, 2013 ‘“ Seven teams from the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) ‘“ Sysco Food Services, Big Freight Systems Inc., Payne Transportation LP, Dr. Hook Towing Services Ltd, Bison Transport Inc., Maxim Truck and Trailer & Cummins Inc. ‘“ were all pulling for the title of winner for this year’s United Way Truck Pull, held on Friday September 6 at 5 pm in the Polo Park Shopping Centre south parking lot.  This is the fourth year that Manitoba’s trucking industry has come out in support of  this event.

Defending champions from last year, Team Sysco Foods were competing against some old and new faces.  To participate, each team paid a $500 registration fee, with 100% of the proceeds going to the United Way.  Each team in the truck pull consists of ten people with at least three team members being women.

Congratulations to the 2013 winning team Hooked Up from Dr. Hook Towing with a time of 13.8 seconds.  Runners up in second place were Sysco Speed; Sysco Foods with a time of 13.9 seconds and in third place were new comers to the event this year ,Cummins Team Torque of Cummins Inc. with a time of 14.0 seconds.

‘œThe MTA is proud to organize this annual event for such a worthy cause but it is the dedication from our member companies and their employees that truly demonstrate this industries commitment to giving back to the community.  I’m proud to say we raised $3,500 for the United Way in a total of 1 min 42 seconds, which is the combined time for all seven teams” says marketing representative Laura La Palme.

Scott Wilson, United Way campaign manager states ‘œUnited Way is very pleased to partner with the Manitoba Trucking Association for this fantastic event.  We’re very happy that the participants in the 4th annual truck pull were able to make a generous donation while also having a great time.  We would like thank the MTA and all of the participating companies for their generous support.”

The Manitoba Trucking Association would like to thank all of the teams who registered, as well as the sponsors for this event:  Beaver Truck Centre (truck and driver), Bison Transport Inc. (trailer), Guardian Traffic Rentals (barricades) and Polo Park Shopping Centre (venue).
