DEI Self Assessment Tool
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Trucking Industry
Manitoba’s trucking industry faces significant challenges as a large proportion of the current workforce prepares for retirement. With the highest job vacancy rate across all industries, trucking small and medium enterprises (SMEs) must consider ways not only to expand recruitment pools to fill vacancies, but also to improve the retention of talent in the long term. Growing diversity within the industry will require a deeper understanding of retention drivers across diverse groups and culturally informed strategies to remove barriers to retention and engagement.
The Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) partnered with Empowered EDI to build a DEI self-assessment quiz and toolkit with a focus on supporting Manitoba’s trucking industry to:
- attract and hire a wide range of qualified talent, including those who have been historically underrepresented in this industry,
- build inclusive workplace practices to support talent engagement, performance, and retention, and
- remove barriers that might get in the way of the performance and retention of diverse talent.
How do I use this Toolkit?
This toolkit is designed to support Human Resources professionals, SME leaders, and those involved in recruitment and retention strategies to implement leading DEI practices. The tools provided are organized into two sections: Recruitment and Retention & Enablement. You can reference and apply them in any order, either by themselves or in combination, to achieve the best outcomes.
There is no one prescribed way to use this material. We encourage you to adapt it to your organization’s culture and practices, making it your own.
Below, you will find a quick introductory video and a DEI Organizational Self-Assessment quiz to help you take stock of the overall level of DEI integration within your organization and consider ways to advance progress.
