Scholarships & Awards

Manitoba Trucking Association has a long standing tradition of recognizing outstanding representatives of our industry by offering various industry awards. Additionally, every year, we offer $10,000 in academic and apprenticeship awards. For details and application forms for all our awards, please see below.

MTA Industry Awards

Red Coleman Service to Industry Award Awarded annually to a member who has made significant contributions toward furthering the aims and development of the truck transportation industry. Nominations must be in writing.

The Payne Transportation LP Associate of the Year Award Recognizes a member of the Associated Trades Division who has made a positive contribution to the programs and/or development of the Association. Nominations Must be in writing.

RBC - Manitoba Trucking Association Pioneers Club Recognizes members of the Trucking Industry who has been continually employed in the trucking business for at least twenty-five years, and have made positive contributions to industry during that time.

Omnitracs Distinguished Member Award – The Manitoba Trucking Association “Distinguished Member” Award is bestowed to a MTA Member Company deemed to have made a long term commitment and noteworthy contributions to the Manitoba Trucking Association, its Associated Trades Division, Vehicle Maintenance Council and the Manitoba trucking industry through on-going dedication, active participation and support of the MTA.

MTA-Custom Truck Sales Inc/Kenworth Truck Company Industry Excellence Award – The MTA annually recognizes 10 drivers who epitomize excellence in the trucking industry. These drivers have demonstrated a commitment to the trucking industry, safety, and customer service. They may have performed acts of outstanding bravery or courage, risking their own lives to save others. These are the drivers that every fleet manager and company owner is glad to have as members of their team; these are also the professional drivers other drivers look up to.

Volvo Trucks Canada Manitoba Driver of the Year Award – The Manitoba Driver of the Year Award is presented annually to one of the Industry Excellence recipients. These awards are given based on commitment to industry, safety, outstanding acts, and customer service. From the Industry Excellence winners, one recipient emerges to win the Manitoba Driver of the Year Award. This award is sponsored by Volvo Trucks Canada.

The Manitoba Trucking Association is pleased to support the future of our industry. Every year, the MTA offers $10,000 in awards and scholarships to deserving individuals. Awards are offered in two categories: academic awards, and apprenticeship awards. Details of each award are listed below.


Academic Awards


Edward M. Ewanochko Transportation Scholarship Award (one scholarship of $500)

This award is provided to assist students either planning to study or already pursuing post-secondary education in a field related to the transportation industry. This award was created in honour of Edward Ewanochko, a seminal figure in the development of transportation risk management programs in Manitoba, to promote professional growth within the truck transportation industry.

Application Deadline: July 20th, 2018.

Winnipeg Transportation Club Scholarship (one scholarship of $500)

This award is provided to assist students either planning to study or already pursuing post-secondary education in a field related to the transportation industry. This scholarship was created in to promote professional growth within the truck transportation industry.

Associated Trades Division Scholarship (three scholarships of $1000 each, for first year tuition assistance)

Since 1986, the Manitoba Trucking Association has offered scholarships for the dependents of employees of member companies. These awards are open to dependent children of employees of MTA member companies. The Manitoba Trucking Association and the Associated Trades Division is pleased to be able to reward scholastic excellence and assist these students in furthering their education.

Apprenticeship Awards


Associated Trades Division Awards

Each year, two $1000 scholarships are awarded to MTA member company employees. One is for the individual who achieves the highest marks on his or her level 2 examinations in the Manitoba Truck Transport Mechanic division; the other goes to the MTA member company employee who achieves the highest marks on his or her level 2 examinations in the Transport Trailer Technician Apprenticeship program.

Vehicle Maintenance Council Awards

Each year, two $1000 scholarships are awarded to MTA member company employees. One is for the individual who achieves the highest marks on his or her level 1 examinations in the Manitoba Truck Transport Mechanic division; the other goes to the MTA member company employee who achieves the highest marks on his or her level 1 examinations in the Transport Trailer Technician Apprenticeship program.

Applications are not required for the Apprenticeship Awards.

These awards are available only to employees or dependents of Manitoba Trucking Association member companies.
